FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – Crews are working to fill in a sinkhole that opened up on South Irby Street in Florence on Wednesday evening.
Michael Hemingway, utilities director for the city of Florence, said the sinkhole is not too far from the local library. He added they have reached out to the state Department of Transportation, and traffic cones have been placed around the hole to divert traffic.
Hemingway said crews are working to find out what caused it.
Maj. Carlos Raines with the Florence Police Department said the sinkhole is roughly 3 feet wide.
