HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The Richmond, Va., Federal Court of Appeals has denied an appeal from a school system asking to rehear its transgender bathroom case.
According to WWBT in Richmond, the court denied a request by the Gloucester school system to decide on the case of a Gloucester High School junior who was born as a female but identifies as a male.
The student is seeking to use the boys' restrooms, but the school board has barred him from doing so, WWBT reported.
Horry County Schools was waiting for this decision to come down to guide its own transgender bathroom protocols.
Teal Britton, spokesperson for HCS, could not provide a response early Tuesday evening, as district officials had not had a chance to view the ruling.
Britton added she will reach out to school board members and the district administrator to discuss the ruling before providing a proper response.
