ATLANTIC BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A structure fire that spread to some Atlantic Beach apartments on Sunday appears to have been accidental, according to information from officials with Horry County Fire Rescue.

The exact cause of the fire, however, remains unknown, according to the HCFR.

Fire crews responded to the blaze on Sunday on 30th Avenue South near Ocean Boulevard. Initial reports from the Horry County Joint Information Center indicated the fire started at Club Off the Hook and spread to the apartments next door.

On Tuesday, HCFR officials said the fire actually started in an apartment and spread to other units but never involved the club.

The confusion seemed to have stemmed from the call for the fire coming from the club, according to the HCFR.

An HCFR firefighter was transported to the hospital for heat exhaustion after battling the blaze.
