LEXINGTON, S.C. (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina baseball beat Liberty 1-0 on Saturday to win the 2016 Big South Baseball Championship. It is the 14th title for CCU, which gets the win in its final league competition as a member of the Big South. Coastal Carolina moves to the Sun Belt Conference on July 1st.
The Chants got on the board in the third inning, when Michael Paez launched a solo home run to take a 1-0 lead. Jason Bilous threw five and one thirds innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five.
The Chants improve to 44-15 on the year, and will await their next opponent when the NCAA Baseball Tournament selection show unveils its field of 64 pairings on Monday. The selection show is at noon and broadcast on ESPNU.
Coastal Carolina hopes to be one of the 16 host teams for an NCAA Regional. The NCAA will announce its 16 hosts on Sunday night at 8:30 via twitter @NCAACWS.
