MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – One woman was arrested and one man was taken to the hospital after a fight broke out during a funeral at a Myrtle Beach funeral home because of a disagreement over the family's funeral arrangements, according to a Myrtle Beach Police report.
When police arrived at the funeral home in the 1200 block of Carver Street on Saturday, a group of people told the officer that 23-year-old Corey Caradell Bellamy was causing a disturbance, the report states. One person said Bellamy started to throw chairs and was being "very loud" during a funeral service.
Bellamy said he did not agree with his family's final plans for his loved one and told the officer he "kind of lost control." Bellamy was having trouble breathing, and said he has a bad heart, so the officer called for EMS to assist.
One of the other people at the funeral home said he wanted Bellamy arrested; that's when 26-year-old Jasmine Shante Chaney ran over and pushed that man, causing him to stumble backward, the report states. The officer regained control of the situation until backup arrived.
Chaney was placed under arrest for assault and battery, third degree, and Bellamy was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, the report states.
