Warming shelters open across the area

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – As temperatures continue to fall drop across the Pee Dee area warming shelters are opening their doors to those in need of protection from the frigid temperatures.

Below is a list of open shelters in your area.

FLORENCE

Salvation Army (open 6:00 p.m. tonight until 7:00 a.m. tomorrow) 

2210 Hoffmeyer Road

Whosever Community Church (open tonight) 

356 W. N B Baroody Street

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and close at midnight.

HARTSVILLE

Second Baptist Church (open tonight) 

212 W. Washington Street 

843-332-5001

Doors close at 7:00 p.m. 

CONWAY

Warming shelter at Collins Park has moved to a different location. The new location is located at the Conway Senior Center, located at 1519 Millpond Rd. in Conway. The shelter will open at 6 p.m. and close at 8 a.m..  If there are no occupants by 10 p.m., the shelter will close.  Cots, blankets and pillows will be available, along with snacks and beverages.  Pets are not allowed.

    The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting on Jones Road in Olanta Saturday night, according to Major Michael Nunn with FCSO. The investigation is ongoing, but Nunn says it may be accidental.

Four of the seven council members organized the meeting on Friday to discuss if Town Administrator Micki Fellner should be dismissed from her job for what some say is violating duties.

    The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office is on scene of a fatal shooting on Germantown Place, according to Captain Cliff Arnette. Details are limited at this point in the investigation, but Arnette confirms one fatality. The shooting happened Saturday afternoon, and the investigation is ongoing.
