2 friends split $50,000 from Powerball ticket purchased in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Two friends from different parts of the state are splitting a $50,000 Powerball prize from a ticket purchased at a Tiger Mart in Myrtle Beach.

One friend lives in Charleston, and the other Greenville. Last week, one sent the other a text message that read: “Dude, I think we won,” according to a news release from the South Carolina Education Lottery.

The ticket they purchased for last Wednesday’s $1.5 billion drawing matched all but one number drawn.

“I was one number away from being stupid,” said one of the guys.

“I was one number away from clearing the calendar for the rest of my life,” said the other.

They have been friends for 30 years, and they say they’ll keep chasing the jackpot and sharing the winnings fifty-fifty, the release states.

“This was just practice,” they said.

According to lottery officials, the odds of winning $50,000 by matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball® number are 1 in 913,129.

For selling the claimed ticket, Tiger Mart #15 in Myrtle Beach received a commission of $500.

The estimated jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing is not quite the $1.5 billion offered last week – it’s currently at $60 million, lottery officials said.
