HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Wednesday is the deadline to register to vote in the Republic Presidential Preference Primary taking place on Saturday, February 20, according to county officials.
On Tuesday, the state made a change to the deadline to register - Horry County officials had previously stated that the deadline for the Republican Primary was January 27, not January 20. Voters have until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday to register to vote in the Republican Primary. Voters have until 11:59 p.m. on January 27 to register to vote in order to vote in Democratic Primary.
To register to vote online, or to check to see if you are registered, head to: www.scvotes.org – voters can register online with a South Carolina driver's license or DMV ID.
The Democratic Presidential Preference Primary will take place on February 27, and the deadline to register to vote in that primary is January 27. Voters may only participate in one of the primaries, and because South Carolina holds open primaries, voters of either party can participate in either primary, but not both.
Poll will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on each primary voting day, and registered voters waiting in line at 7 p.m. will still be allowed to vote, according to local election officials. Voters will be asked to provide one of the following photo IDs at their polling place:
-SC Driver's License
-ID Card issued by SC Department of Motor Vehicles
-SC Voter Registration Card with photo
-Federal Military ID
Curbside voting is available to any voter with a physical handicap or over the age of 65 who cannot enter the polling place, election officials stated.
After the polls close at 7 p.m., unofficial results will be posted to www.scvotes.org and will be reported by WMBF News.
