MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A 23-year-old mother from Conway was arrested after her roommates told police that she put a pillow over the face of her two-year-old child to quiet him, in addition to striking him repeatedly and using foul language around him, according to a Myrtle Beach Police report.
Taylor Marie Keel was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Saturday, January 9 and charged with cruelty to children, according to jail records.
On January 8, a witness contacted police after speaking with Keel's roommates, the report states. They told the witness, and later police, that Keel had placed her hand and a pillow over her son's face in order to get him to stop crying. One roommate told police that Keel also punches her son in the back of the head with a closed fist, slaps him across the face with an open hand, and curses at him when the child "acts up."
The other roommate also told police that on the night of January7, Keel was talking on the phone about selling drugs.
Police spoke to Keel, who denied any wrongdoing, and said any claims by any of the witnesses were invalid.
Police relayed the information to the Department of Social Services, according to the report. Keel was charged with cruelty to children and booked into jail.
Keel was released from J. Reuben Long Detention Center on January 10 on a $1,092 bond.
