HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A 22-year-old Conway mother was arrested for neglect of a child after her 3-year-old son was allegedly found asleep on the floorboard of a running truck on Tuesday morning, according to a police report.
Ashley Nicole Lee's boyfriend, the father of the child, reported to police that after searching for Lee all night, he found her truck parked behind a house on Simpson Creek Drive in Horry County, near Loris. Inside the truck, he found his son sleeping on the floorboard, with the keys in the ignition and the truck running.
The boyfriend tried to get Lee out of the house, and when he saw her coming out the rear window, he told her to stay because police were on the way, the Horry County Police report states. The boyfriend then showed the responding officer that Lee had not changed the child's diaper, and instead had a towel shoved in the diaper.
Lee, who appeared to be under the influence of an unknown drug, initially told police that she had just gone inside the home for a moment to use the bathroom, the report states. She then admitted to the officer that she was at the residence all night, but later changed her story and said she was in the vehicle with the home's resident all night.
Police then called the Department of Social Services. After the facts were reviewed, Lee was arrested for unlawful neglect of a child, the report states. A DSS employee assisted in creating a safety plan for the child, who was left with Lee's mother.
