HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) -"I thought she had just fallen asleep like she's done a few times." Shelly Wells says it was just a normal day...She had gone inside the Myrtle Beach mall to shop while her mom waited in the car. But when Shelly returned, she could tell something was wrong.

"I was like freaking out, and I was trying to get my phone out of my pocket. I was shaking and trying to dial 911."

Horry County Police say Mae Davis was found shot to death, and her purse missing. Police are currently searching for a suspect and are hoping that surveillance footage from the Mall's security system may be able to help. The family says today would have been Mae's 79th birthday. They say they can't understand why someone would have ever felt the need to cause her harm.

"This woman would have given you everything! Just ask! You wouldn't have even have had to fight with her. You wouldn't have had to struggle. Nothing. She would have handed it to you and said 'hold on let me get my cigarette's and went and sat on the curb." said Davis's niece, Shelly Coppoch.

The family emphasized how important family was to Mae, with 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
While they are all still in disbelief, they made one point very clear.

"They didn't have to kill her. And that's we're here because we want the people to know who she was. We want them to know that someone in that parking lot had to have seen something, hear something. They might not even realize they heard it or seen it. But maybe this would trigger that memory of 'oh yeah that's what was going on that day. And that's why we're putting our story out there. We want this person found. We want justice." said Davis's daughter, Michelle Gagne.

The family is hoping that this story may shed some light on a possible suspect, and ask that anyone with information please call Horry County Police immediately at 843-915-8477.
