Two decisions by Myrtle Beach Leaders are causing some concern and controversy as we start off a new year.
The first, the plan to mount license plate readers at city entrances.
The second, the decision to not issue new business licenses for bars or nightclubs in the Super Block area of downtown.
I understand why these developments have raised some eyebrows, however, something needs to be done to address the crimes we see along the Grand Strand.
Consider This: We are very fortunate to have little violent crime and to live in a safe community. But, because of our appealing location and weather, we do attract a lot of people to the area and that brings some with bad intentions.
These two steps can deter crime help keep our reputation as a safe, family friendly vacation spot. But it's important that any decisions are made with listening to differing opinions, discussion and transparency.
