Florence Ice Skating a huge success

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - It's your last chance to get out on the ice this weekend as the Florence Civic Center prepares to close its ice rink after a successful year. Hundreds of smiling faces have filled this arena as they prepare to enjoy one of the oldest holiday traditions for the last time this year.

Kids and families from up to two hours away came to the Florence Civic Center and Coordinator Chasity Wilson says the success they've seen has been more than they could have ever anticipated. "We are in our last couple of days of ice skating. We opened the season up early December, and we added new sessions to accommodate the public, it's been incredible." said Florence Civic Center Coordinator Chasity Wilson.

Wilson says Florence has been without ice skating for a few years now, and she wasn't exactly sure how the town would react. "We've had a lot of requests for it, but timing was a very big issue. We've had a lot of arena events that wouldn't allow us to accommodate for public skating. So now we've been able to open it up. And we see now that we need to do it." Wilson says the doors will open today from 10 to 2 and then from 3 to 5, so make sure you get here early to enjoy all the skating fun for the last time until next year. Wilson confirmed that due to the overall success, the rink would definitely be back next year.
