MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Those living in South Carolina who were unable to work in October due to the flooding disaster have received more than $1.2 million in unemployment benefits, according to reports from the Associated Press.

Some applicants were ineligible because they left their jobs before the flood or their employers previously scheduled a shutdown during that period, according to agency spokesman Bob Bouyea. Employees, self employers, and business owners could receive benefits if they could prove they lost income because of the disaster.

According to A.P.,Bouyea says most applicants sought a week or two of benefits.
