South Carolina weather causes several flooded roads

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - As rains begin to move out of South Carolina, SCDOT crews continue to assess conditions, close flooded roadways, and make repairs where water has subsided. Currently, 43 roads are closed in 21 counties due to flooding. Thirteen of the 42 roads have damage that will require repairs, according to SCDOT.

There are no interstate closures and only one primary route, SC 193 in Saluda County, is closed. The counties that have been impacted are:

  • Campfield Church Rd SC 201 Level Land Hwy S-326 (Uldrick Circle) Closed due to undermining at cross line pipe. Peach Orchard Rd S-32 (Old Calhoun Falls Rd) S-110 (Anderson St) Closed due to undermining at cross line pipe
  • Cherokee
  • S-364 Oakland Ave. Mill Street Kindrick Street Closed due to flooding and washout.
  • S-612 Brugg Street Lime Street Pine Streer Closed due to flooding.
  • Chesterfield
  • Juniper Road (s- 13-494) Old Cash Road (S-13-148) Bridge over Juniper Creek Closed due to flooding.

  • Winn St (S-66) Cumberland Way (local) Maplewood St. (S-147) Closed due to road washout. Crossline pipe collapse.
  • Union County
  • Boat Landing Road (S-44-401) River Road (S- 44-86) End of Boat Landing Road Closed due to flooding.
  • Boatman Springs Road Meadowoods Road (S-44-33) SC 49 Closed due to flooding.
  • W, Spring Road Sulphur Springs Road (S-44-53) Bridge over McClure Creek Closed due to flooding.
  • York
  •  Red River Road (S-46-50) Commerce Drive (S-13-47 Waterford Park Drive (S- 46-654) The Bridge over Manchester Creek has been closed due to damage to the approach.

SCDOT Maintenance crews will continue to monitor roads and bridges in the affected areas throughout the weekend. Immediate repairs to the damaged roads will begin as weather conditions allow. Currently, SCDOT does not anticipate any lengthy closures associated with roadway repairs.

SCDOT bridge inspectors continue to monitor water levels and bridge conditions due to the release of water by SCE&G at the Lake Murray dam.

Interim Secretary of Transportation Christy A. Hall reminds the traveling public to avoid driving through standing water on roadways and never drive around road closure barricades.
