Police: Georgetown man charged with manslaughter

GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) – The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year-old Jermaine Anttwaine Reid, of 215 Thomas Drive in Georgetown, for manslaughter.

On December 27, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a suspicious death at Georgetown Memorial Hospital, according to police.

According to witnesses, a physical altercation between the victim and Reid occurred at 197 Thomas Drive, in the Santee Community of Georgetown County, resulting in injuries which required the victim to be transported to Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

On December 29, Reid surrendered at the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office without incident and charged with one count of manslaughter. He was later transported to the Georgetown County Detention Center, according to police.

    An Horry County firefighter living in Conway was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual battery with a student, according to jail records and other sources. Matthew James Oswald, 31, from Conway, was arrested by Horry County police at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday and charged with sexual battery with a student. As of Thursday morning, he remained incarcerated at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
