MARION COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The Marion Police Department arrested a man Chief Dewayne Tennie said is believed to have been behind eight burglaries, and five vehicle thefts right around Christmas.
Chief Tennie said Sean Patrick Burke, from Fredericksburg, VA, was arrested on December 27. He had arrived to town on December 25, Christmas night, to visit family. His "crime spree", Tennie said, began soon after.
Burke was caught on surveillance video at one of the homes he allegedly burglarized, and an officer spotted him in the early morning hours of December 27 in front of the home where he was staying.
When officers approached Burke, they said he became disorderly, and was arrested for disorderly conduct. Officers got a search warrant for the home and Burke's vehicle. They recovered four stolen firearms, knives, money, jewelry and medication.
"Due to the efforts of the officers the majority of the items were recovered and will be returned to their rightful owners, especially the firearms," Tennie said. "I am extremely grateful that the firearms were recovered and did not end up in the wrong hands. The Marion Police Department is working diligently to ensure the citizens of Marion, as well as their property, is as safe as possible and continuously strives to make the city a safe place."
Burke is charged with seven counts of first degree burglary, one count of second degree burglary, five counts of theft from a motor vehicle, and one count of malicious damage to property.
Tennie said the incidents are still under investigation by the Marion Police Department.
