Horry County, SC (WMBF) - An 8 year old boy with autism was reported missing Thursday night, Christmas Eve. Horry County Police used many resources to locate the child who was found just an hour after going missing. Sergeant Fur with Horry County Police says if it was not for the assistance of community members aiding with the search, the boy may still be missing. "The community was phenomenal. Everybody came out here and helped us with perimeter. They helped us with the search. And that's exactly what we like to see. This child would not be at home it it were not for the efforts of the community working with the police to try and solve this problem and that's all that we ask." said Fur. Officials say a perimeter was set shortly after the call went out and that officers searched that area until the boy was found near a wooded area. "It was imperative that we had a lot of people come over here, set up a large perimeter, and kind of move on from there to keep him from getting into a larger area vein that there's so much water out here and dangerous areas the environment out here thick. Lots of water and that was our concern which is why we responded with so many units." said Fur. Sergeant Fur says that even though it was Christmas Eve, officers were prepared to search all night for the missing boy.
