Pirates Voyage collects 32,500 pounds of food for LCFB

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Pirates Voyage presented the Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) with over 32,500 pounds of food collected during their holiday food drive.

A celebration of the donation was held on December 17, at 11:00 a.m., at the LCFB's Grand Strand Regional Food Center in Myrtle Beach.

LCFB President and CEO, Pat Walker said, “Not only is this gift of much needed food timely, it's truly a food drive for the record books. Last year's donation was our largest Horry County food drive to date, and this year they have more than doubled the donation. We are thrilled to have the support of Pirates Voyage and truly appreciate the impact this donation makes on the Grand Strand community."

During the holidays as utility costs rise and seasonal jobs come to an end, the need for food assistance rises. According to Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap, 16 percent of Horry County residents lack adequate access to food. The donation of over 32,500 pounds of food will create more than 27,000 meals for Horry County residents experiencing hunger.
