CHADBOURN, NC (WMBF) - Bill Henderson with RJ Corman Railroad Company says that reopening the rail lines in South Carolina will be hugely beneficial for the state. That's why crews have been working around the clock, renovating and replacing old ties and rails to make these once forgotten lines operational again.
"In order to operate a safe and reliable railroad you've got to have a really good, safe, sound infrastructure. So we're working on that infrastructure to make all those repairs." said Henderson. RJ Corman will create at least thirty new jobs for their company as well as part time jobs. Bill says that businesses such as lumber and glass already stationed along the railroads will automatically benefit from the reopening, and he anticipates more businesses will be drawn there as well.
"Rail is so much cheaper that it opens up new markets for the existing customers. And when you open up new markets, over time their able to raise their prices and prosper and hopefully they have new jobs and so it's just one of those great ripple effects." said Henderson.
