Geminid meteor shower peaks this weekend

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - One of the most well known and famous meteor showers of the year peaks this weekend. The Geminid meteor shower, also know as the King of meteor showers, will peak as we head into the end of the weekend.

Although the peak of the meteor shower may come on Sunday night, tonight will prove to be a great night for viewing. Also, the better night for viewing. Clear skies will be overhead this evening as we watch the meteors streak across our sky. As many as 100-150 meteors per hour could cross the night sky during the peak Sunday night. The thing is, we're tracking our next front that will trek towards our area Sunday night into Monday morning so cloud cover will be thickening overnight into Monday.

As you head out tonight, Sunday night or Monday night remember that the darker it is around you the better chance you have of viewing some shooting stars.
