Outdoor patio cafe, new restaurant coming to downtown Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The owner of Art Bar and The Chemist now plans to spice up another building and the whole dining experience near Ocean Boulevard.

City council put its seal of approval on the plans Tuesday afternoon.

Larry Bond announced his plans Tuesday to turn the old McDonald's building at Withers Drive and 9th Avenue North into Gordo's Tacos and Tequilas, which will serve 50 different tacos that are organic as well as hormone and antibiotic free.

He's also working with Myrtle Beach Public Works to take over four parking spaces for outdoor seating at The Chemist and what will become Gordo's Tacos and Tequilas.

Public works has designed additional curbing that will help block traffic from people eating in the outdoor cafe.

Council members and Mayor John Rhodes did bring up safety concerns for people sitting along that intersection.

Ultimately, they approved the plans.

Bond will reimburse public works for those costs.

He also plans to add more windows to the Withers Drive wall of The Chemist to improve the ocean view for customers.

The outdoor patio cafe is expected to open in March then Gordo's Tacos and Tequilas will open between summer and fall of next year.
