City of Myrtle Beach announces several job openings

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The City of Myrtle Beach is hiring for both full-time and part-time positions. The city offers several ways of applying for positions electronically. Below is a list of available positions and job descriptions.

  • Police Officer-Police Department.  Performs responsible protective service work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances with required related work. This position requires graduation from high school or GED equivalency, 21 years old to comply with SC Law Enforcement Council entrance requirements and possession of a valid driver’s license.  It also requires a thorough background investigation. SC Criminal Justice Certification and experience as a Police Officer is preferred.  Required:  Completed Standard Application, Supplemental Application along with required documents as outlined in the document section, Statement of Honesty, Physical Agility Test & Score Sheet, Authorization to Release Information Form, and Personal History Questionnaire. Resumes accepted only with completed application package.  Starting Salary: $34,042/year, plus benefits (non-certified); $37,196/year, plus benefits (SC certified).  Application deadline:  5:00 p.m., January 4, 2016.
  • Civil Engineer – Public Works Department/Engineering Division.  Provide professional engineering services and consultations to the Public Works Department and other departments, including assessing water and sewer impact fees, approving storm water management plans, reviewing public and private building plans and other related duties as assigned.  Position uses water/sewer modeling software, GIS software and CAD software.  Requires any combination or experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in Civil Engineering or closely related field; Engineer in Training-(E.I.T.) preferred, be at least 18 years old and valid driver’s license.  Salary Range: $48,183 - $75,167/year, plus benefits.  Application deadline:  5:00 p.m., December 7, 2015.
  • Social Media Specialist/temp– Downtown Redevelopment Corp (DRC) Temporary/Part-Time.  Duties include but are not limited to utilizing the current Social Media Plan for the DRC, the ability to attract and interact with targeted virtual communities and network users, review, edit and revise the current Social Media Plan, provide administrative support to DRC Staff and Board of Directors and other related duties assigned. Requires proven working experience in social media/administrative or related field, proficiency in Microsoft Office, available to work 20 -25 hours per week with occasional evening or weekend, degree in Communication, Marketing, Business or related field, be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license. Rate: $15.00/hour. No Benefits. Position open until filled. 
  • Maintenance Worker/Temp– Convention Center.  Temporary/Part-Time position for general employment pool of custodial and semi-skilled applicants to perform various types of   building maintenance and/or ground maintenance. Duties include general housekeeping, maintenance, stage and room set-ups, electrical and/or general landscaping, mowing, raking, edging, planting, picking up litter, etc. Must be at least 18 years old and available to work all shifts, hours, Monday – Sunday. Both Males and Females are encouraged to apply. Rate: $11.70/Hour.  No benefits. Position open until filled.
  • Recreation Assistant – Recreation Services Dept./Crabtree Gym-Adult Sports.  Temporary/Part-Time Position.  Duties include, but are not limited to league practice and play supervision; answering telephone; registering patrons; collecting fees and light maintenance of sports areas and assist in all areas of the Recreation Division as needed.  Prefer CPR Certified.  Requires knowledge and experience in a variety of public recreational sports such as flag football, basketball, kickball, dodgeball and softball, able to work evenings, high school education or equivalent, be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver license.  Rate: $10.10/Hour. No Benefits. Position open until filled.
  • Recreation Assistant – Recreation Services Dept./Mary C. Canty Recreation Center. Temporary/Part-Time Position.  Duties include, but are not limited to answering telephone; registering patrons; collecting fees and cleaning work area, teaches fitness classes and youth recreation programs, and assists in all areas of the Recreation Division as needed.  Prefer CPR Certified.  Must be able to lift 50lb regularly this position involves setting up and breaking down tables and chairs for functions of 200 + throughout the week and during weekend rentals.   Requires knowledge of computers and a variety of public recreational activities and ability to maintain effective relationship with citizens of all age groups. Must have a high school education, be able to work evenings & weekends, be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.  Rate:  $10.10/Hour.  No Benefits. Position open until filled.
  • Recreation Assistant – Recreation Services Dept./Pepper Geddings Recreation Center.  Temporary/Part-Time Position. Duties include, but are not limited to answering telephone; registering patrons; collecting fees and cleaning work area, monitoring gym or weight room, teaching fitness classes, leading programs or coaching sports & recreation  and assists in all areas of the Recreation Division as needed.  Prefer CPR Certified.  Requires knowledge of a variety of public recreational activities, high school education or equivalent, be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver license.  Rate: $10.10/Hour. No Benefits. Position open until filled.
  • Lifeguard ? Recreation Services Dept./Aquatics Division. Temporary/Part-Time. Pepper Geddings Recreation Center/Mary C. Canty Recreation Center. Requires current lifeguard certification, be at least 18 years old, valid driver’s license & available to work a variety of hours including evenings and weekends. Rate: $10.10/Hour. No Benefits.  Position open until filled.
  • GIS Technician/temp – Finance Department/Information Systems Div. Temporary/Part-Time.  Duties include but are not limited to addressing, computer mapping applications, paper mapping functions, maintaining mobile applications, working with an aerial imagery application and other related duties as assigned under the supervision of GIS Coordinator.  Requires proficiency with ESRI (GIS) Software, experience with Access, Excel and Word, programming language experience to include Python and Java, High School Diploma or equivalent  with a GIS, engineering computer science and technology background, be at least 18 years old, available to work 20 - 25 hours per week and possess a valid driver’s license. Rate: $10.00/hour. No Benefits.  Position open until filled.

Plans for the Magnolia Row shopping center have been in the works for four years now and Brenda Bethune, the developer, said the architecture and feel of this development is designed to emulate the feel of downtown Charleston.
