MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The need for blood donations during the holiday season and winter months is great, and the American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to end the year by giving the gift of a blood donation.

Due to winter holidays, severe weather, and seasonal illnesses, people can pull people away from their regular blood donation schedules creating a greater need.

In an effort to boost donations, all donors who donate December 23 through January 3, will receive a long-sleeve Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.

Healthy donors with type AB, O, B negative, and A negative are especially encouraged to give.

To make an appointment to donate blood, download the free Red Cross Blood Donor App from app stores, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
