A move by members of the Horry County School board…should grab your attention. They want to increase class sizes.
Why? To save money. How? By eliminating positions.
That is a dangerous mentality… Because where does it stop? If we put one more student in each middle school and high school class now and increase it to an average of 26 kids…what's the argument against 28, 29 even 30 kids per classroom?
We all know how much more well behaved and engaged kids are when there are fewer of them together. A big group provides camouflage, creates distraction and can prevent students from learning.
Consider This: We will not be able recruit industry and attract young families without a well performing public school system. I hope the school board makes the right decision.
