GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The body of a missing 73-year-old Georgetown woman was recovered in the Pawleys Island creek Tuesday afternoon around 3 p.m. in the 700 Block of Springs Avenue, according to the Georgetown County Coroner's Office.

Clementine Byrd was reported missing Monday, November 30.

Georgetown County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Midway Fire Rescue and the Pawleys Island Police Department responded to 746 Springs Avenue on Pawleys Island around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to the report of a body floating in the creek, according to a press release from the GCSO.

The case is being investigated by the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

A preliminary autopsy has determined that Byrd's cause of death was an accidental drowning.

GCSO PIO Carrie Cuthbertson Weaver said earlier Tuesday afternoon the recovered body was that of a black female.

Georgetown County Chief Deputy Coroner Paulette Radcliffe says a deputy coroner is investigating and further details will be provided at a later time.
