Retired NMB Public Safety Officer named Grand Marshal for North Myrtle Beach Christmas Parade

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Retired North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Officer Lt. Guy Johnson will serve as Grand Marshal for the North Myrtle Beach Christmas Parade being held on Main Street on Saturday, December 5, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

According to a news release from City of North Myrtle Beach Spokesman Pat Dowling, the parade is free and open to the public.

Originally from Burlington, North Carolina, Johnson started his career with the City of North Myrtle Beach in 1977 as an ocean lifeguard.  In 1981, he joined the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Department and continued his service with the City until he retired in May 2015. 

Lt. Johnson has two children, Mathew and Stewart.  Mathew is a United States Marine currently stationed at Camp Lejeune, and Stewart lives in North Myrtle Beach and is a student at Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

    Florence County Sheriff deputies were responding to an assault call Friday when they discovered a victim that had been stabbed. The incident occurred on Palomar Parkway in Florence. Investigators discovered a verbal dispute had resulted in the victim being assaulted and stabbed.
