Mullins man charged with capital murder in Alabama

MULLINS, SC (WMBF) - A Mullins man and two other suspects were taken into custody Thursday after allegedly shooting and killing two people in Montgomery Alabama, Lt. Denise Barnes with Montgomery police said.

Police and fire responded to Endicott Drive around 1 a.m. Thursday in reference to reports of two people who were shot.

One victim, Anthony Packer, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, Sherika Packer was transported to the hospital and later pronounced dead, both were from Montgomery. A third victim suffered minor injuries, according to Barnes.

Donte Cooper, 26-years-old from Mullins is charged with one count of capital murder.

According to Barnes, detectives also charged 24-year-old Kelly Varnado and 28-year-old Steven Varnado with one count each of capital murder. Both are from Montgomery.

Cooper and the other two suspects are being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility without bond. 

Barnes said the fatal shootings are under investigation.
