No ice rink coming to Myrtle Beach this holiday; Florence offers alternative

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – It’s official: there will not be an ice rink in the Grand Strand this holiday, but there is a nearby alternative open next month at the Florence Civic Center.

After a temporary ice rink was installed at the Myrtle Beach Mall in November of 2014, there was talk of possibly bringing a seasonal, or even permanent, ice rink to Myrtle Beach. However, the Facebook page for the Myrtle Beach Ice Rink/Arena confirmed last week that plans for another rink are, for now, on ice.

As late as October 29 of this year, a return of the ice rink seemed possible, with the Facebook page encouraging interested parties to contact the Myrtle Beach Mall.

However, the Myrtle Beach Ice Rink page does supply an alternative: the Florence Civic Center will have public skating sessions throughout December.

Tickets to skate at the Civic Center are $5 for children 12 and under, and $7 for adults, not including the $3 skate rental.
