MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Thousands of people crowded the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center for Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump.
An event of this magnitude involves a great deal of planning, and preparations have been going on for days.
The event just fell into the lap of the convention center a few days ago. This was after tickets for the original location, Broadway at the Beach, reached 4,000 and the rally needed to be held in a bigger space.
While organizers would not say how many people are expected to be at the rally, they prepared for a big crowd.
The event coordinator said the center has held many events of this magnitude and is fully prepared to handle the crowd and have all hands on deck with a strict security plan.
Myrtle Beach Police, Horry County Police, the Sheriff's Department, SLED, Highway Patrol and the Secret Service were at the event, along with more than 100 volunteers and convention center staff who were working the event.
The at least six agencies have taken every precaution possible to assure the safety of everyone inside the convention center.
Police will also have the skywatch tower set up in the parking lot.
In order to actually get to the rally, people have to pass through metal detectors first. Organizers said if you exit the building after already being inside, you will have to wait at the end of the line to get back in.
The event coordinator said an emergency exit plan is in place if anything were to happen, but everyone from the convention center, to Trump's people and police, said they have the grounds completely covered.
"This event is probably going to be one of the most secure places you could ever be in Myrtle Beach, I don't think anybody has to worry about anything," SC Grassroots State Director Gerry McDaniel said. "The security has been here a couple of weeks so they didn't just come here today."
In order for the event to run smoothly, organizers need your help. They ask you arrive as early as possible because there will be traffic and a wait to get inside.
They also request you bring as few personal items as possible, to get through security swiftly and safely. You also must sign up online and come in with a ticket.
The excitement is high for many Trump supporters, some like Paulette Delcasalle who traveled from Atlanta to volunteer.
"I love the spirit of the campaign, I love the message, and I want to help spread the message anytime I can spare," she said.
"Mr. Trump has been here a few times but at those times he had not announced that he's running for president, yet so the energy is like nothing I've ever seen," McDaniel said.
