CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A 29-year-old woman has been charged with homicide by child abuse after a 3-year-old child died from injuries at a local hospital on Thursday.

Conway Police responded to Grand Strand Medical Center on Wednesday, November 18, regarding a child that had been brought in by Horry County EMS with life-threatening injuries, according to a news release from Conway Police. The victim, 3-year, 11-month-old Jada Strange, died on Thursday as a result of her injuries at the hospital. The preliminary cause is blunt force trauma in multiple areas, according to Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

After an investigation, 29-year-old Alicia Kasper, who lives with and is dating Strange, according to police, was arrested on Saturday, November 21 and charged with homicide by child abuse, the release states.

"The city was able to obtain two search warrants and we did search the residence and we found some stuff there that could help with the conclusion of the investigation,” Conway Police Sgt. Darren Alston said. "DSS and our police department, during our investigation, we discovered the child suffered some injuries due to child abuse.”

According to an arrest warrant, Kasper was in the care, custody and control of a minor child. Kasper did inflict injuries upon the minor child resulting in death. The warrant states that the acts constitute homicide by child abuse.

Sgt. Alston said it was the decision by paramedics, on scene, to bring the little girl for treatment at a trauma center, which is why they bypassed Conway Medical Center and went to Grand Strand Medical Center.

Kasper appeared before the Conway Municipal Court judge Monday Morning, but due to the homicide charge, she will have to appear before a circuit court judge, in order to have her bond set. Kasper remains at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

"Jada was a loving daughter and granddaughter, who will be greatly missed. Jada brought so much joy and happiness to everyone around her. She enjoyed performing for others and she loved everything in reference to Frozen."

Funeral arrangements for Jada can be found here.
