BRUNSWICK, NC (WMBF) - The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office arrested and charged two men for stealing wild plants from land, including the Venus Flytrap. They are now being held under $1 million bonds.

According to BCSO, the two were each charged Saturday with one count of felony taking of Venus Flytrap, 149 counts of taking certain wild plants from land, and one count of second degree trespass.

The arrest came after an article search by a BCSO K9 of the backpacks they were carrying revealed the plants.

Scottie Stevenson, and David Joel Lewis, are being held in the Brunswick County Detention Facility under $1 million bonds.

According to botany.org, the Venus Flytrap is native to selected areas of North and South Carolina. Many of those plants cost anywhere between $10-$25.
