Family lays to rest missing man found dead in Georgetown County

Alphonso Alston Alphonso Alston

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Friends and family members of Alphonso Alston gathered at the Henryhand Funeral Home in Andrews Thursday to mourn his loss.

"This brought a lot upon my family. Like I said my brother wasn't a violent person. He was a loving charming person. So we want to see justice for everyone who was involved," said Alston’s sister, Johanna Gesque.

The 25-year-old’s body was recovered in a wooded area near Mauresina Road in Georgetown County last week, about three weeks after he was originally reported missing.

Many people went to show their support for the family, most of them wearing shirts with a picture of Alphonso and the nickname "Pete".

"Pete…he is a funny guy, he is a funny guy. He is really loving, he had a big, big, big heart. Like everyone would say he wouldn't harm a fly, he's just very charming, very loving, not a violent person at all," said Gesque.

Alston reportedly disappeared after an altercation with Herbert Deas. They were last seen together after Deas fired a gun at Alston, accidentally striking Alston’s ex-girlfriend, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. Since then, Deas has been arrested and charged with murder along with discharging a firearm.

"Well we believe there must have been several parties involved, because my brother, he was six foot two, so he was a big fella. So one person couldn't have just carried on this act by themselves. There had to have been more people involved. But nobody is talking. Nobody is saying anything."

Deas remains at the Georgetown County Detention Center.
