MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Eighth graders at Ocean Bay Middle School dressed up in red, white and blue Wednesday for a Veteran's Day assembly to say thanks to the men and women who served for our country.
"This is such a treat for us veterans who came here today because we got to speak with the youth of America and what I've seen here today with this group of 8th graders is that America is going to be in good hands. America's got a great future with students like them," said Stew Koontz, former U.S. Army Staff Sergeant.
Veterans say these kinds of events are important, especially for the youth so they know where their freedom came from.
The students sang some patriotic tunes to thank the veterans for coming out and for their service.
The Veteran's Day holiday dates back to November 11, 1918, when WWI officially ended.
