Hundreds gather to honor veterans in Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Hundreds of citizens gathered to honor our nation’s veterans at ceremonies at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center and North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex Wednesday morning.

The Myrtle Beach Veterans Day Ceremony began at 10:30 a.m., and featured music from Festive Brass and a 21-gun salute. The event was co-sponsored by the Grand Strand Patriotic Alliance and the City of Myrtle Beach.

Hundreds of people also attended the dedication of the newly-completed Veterans Plaza at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex at 11 a.m. U.S. Army Paratrooper and Purple Heart recipient Captain Katherine Jenerette, of North Myrtle Beach, was the keynote speaker. She was wounded in combat in Afghanistan, and continues to serve as a Psychological Warfare Operations Officer.
