Body found in Georgetown Co. identified as 25-year-old missing man

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A body was found in a wooded area off Pennyroyal Road in Georgetown County around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a news release from the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

Georgetown County Deputy Coroner Chase Ridgeway said the body has been identified as 25-year-old Alphonso Alston III of Georgetown County.

The Georgetown County Coroner’s Office said on Thursday the preliminary autopsy reports show the body is that of an 18 to 30-year-old black male and the cause of death is still pending, according to a news release from the GCCO. Georgetown County Deputy Coroner Chase Ridgeway said the remains have not been identified at this point and may take several days. The GCCO is still investigating.

GCSO Deputies responded to Mauresina Road on Wednesday and located one deceased victim. Two individuals traveling in the area found the body.

An autopsy was performed at 9 a.m. Thursday morning at MUSC.
