One person killed after head-on collision on Oates Highway in Darlington Co.

DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A person has died following a two-vehicle car accident on Oates Highway (SC-403) in Darlington County Monday afternoon, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Lance Cpl. Judd Jones said a 2004 Chrysler was traveling north on Oates Highway and a 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck was traveling south when the vehicles collided head-on around 4:55 p.m.

The driver of the 2004 Chrysler was transported to McLeod Hospital where they died from injuries sustained in the crash. WMBF News is working to obtain more information from the Darlington County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck sustained minor injuries in the accident and was also transported to McLeod Hospital. The driver was wearing their seatbelt and the female passenger in the truck was not injured.

The collision remains under investigation by the SCHP.

    An Horry County firefighter living in Conway was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual battery with a student, according to jail records and other sources. Matthew James Oswald, 31, from Conway, was arrested by Horry County police at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday and charged with sexual battery with a student. As of Thursday morning, he remained incarcerated at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
