McLeod Diabetes Center hosts 17th annual Diabetes Health Fair

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – The McLeod Diabetes Center will host its 17th annual Diabetes Health Fair on Saturday, November 7 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the McLeod Medical Plaza.

The free event includes blood sugar, blood pressure and eye screenings, as well as foot checks, according to a news release from the McLeod Diabetes Center. Diabetes-related nutrition, stroke information, healthy food samples and medication information will also be available.

Several vendors will be at the event with the latest diabetes products, and everyone who attends the Diabetes Health Fair can register for door prizes.

Dr. Aundrea Loftley of McLeod Endocrinology Associates will present “Preventing Diabetes” at 9 a.m., and Sanofi Diabetes will sponsor A1C Champion Gregg Pfaff’s special presentation “Managing Diabetes” at 10 a.m.

The McLeod Diabetes Center offers outpatient diabetes care through the following services:

  • Diabetes self-management education
  • Individual and group classes
  • Nutritional counseling and carbohydrate counting education
  • Weight management
  • Diabetes foot care
  • Insulin self-administration
  • Individualized care plans
  • Insulin pump training
  • Insulin pen utilization
  • Training for home glucose monitoring
  • Stress and time management

Most insurance plans cover the services and a physician referral is necessary.

Diabetes self-management classes are offered weekly; free support groups open to the public are offered on the second Monday of each month except during November.

The McLeod Diabetes Center also works with McLeod Women’s Health Services to help women who develop Gestational Diabetes, or high blood sugar (glucose) levels during their pregnancy.

The American Association of Diabetes Educators has recognized the McLeod Diabetes Center for meeting national standards of diabetes education.
