SURFSIDE, SC (WMBF) - Surfside Beach Mayor Doug Samples confirmed the passing of Surfside Beach Town Council member Ralph Magliette Friday morning.

Samples said, "Ralph was a breath of fresh air and a very very good man, he was like a guardian angel. He was serving his first term and a blessing for town council."

"Ralph was a special person, the type you don't normally see in politics. I considered him to be my second conscious or guardian angel when it came to serving our community. He cared about people. He was a good man, Samples said."

Surfside Beach Town Council member Mary Beth Mabry posted, "Councilman Ralph Magliette went to be with his Lord today. It was a pleasure and honor to serve with him. He will greatly be missed. Ralph loved this town and was a true servant. Please keep his wife Pattie and his children in your prayers. As Ralph would always want us to end every meeting with God Bless, so I wish each and everyone God's Blessings."

Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce said,“In his first term, Ralph Magliette earned the trust and respect of his fellow council members as well as the residents of Surfside Beach as a whole. The community is recognized as a family-friendly town where people go out of their way to help a neighbor. And that is just what Ralph did; he helped and cared about his neighbors. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ralph Magliette’s family during this difficult time.”
