HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – On October 29, Horry County will begin mosquito spraying in the Lee’s Landing and Highway 90 area, and in Garden City on October 30.

Ground spraying operations will run from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. and aerial spraying will be conducted from 7:00 p.m. until dusk. All operations will run Monday through Thursday, weather permitting.

According to a release from Horry County Government, the chemicals used for mosquito control spraying are EPA approved and pose minimal risk to both humans and animals. It is advised that individuals with asthma or other respiratory illness may wish to remain indoors with both windows and doors closed during the spraying, according to the release. The release also suggests, homegrown fruits and vegetables be washed, scrubbed or peeled prior to eating.

In an effort to keep the honeybee population safe, beekeepers are asked to contact Horry County Stormwater to identify the location of their colonies.

Citizens with requests for spraying in their area, should call Horry County Road & Drainage Hotline at (843) 381-8000.
