LAKE CITY, SC (WMBF) - The Greater Lake City Chamber of Commerce is mourning the loss of former Police Chief Brown who lost his life from brain cancer. Brown served the community as a dedicated Police Chief.

A Facebook post stated, "Chief Brown dedicated his life to protecting the city he obviously loved."

"He served our city and community with a quiet grace and dignity. There are many things you can fake In life. Love and passion are not on that list. Chief Brown had love for all of us and a passion for his job."

Rest In peace Chief Brown. Thank you for a job well done.

Greg Moore with the GLCCC said, "Billy served Lake City for decades and was the police chief. He lost his fight with brain cancer Monday morning at 3 a.m. at McLeod Hospice House in Florence.

Moore said, "Gilead Baptist Church on Cockfield Rd. is handling the funeral. 2 p.m. Wednesday. Carolina Funeral home is doing the arrangements."

Brown served at his post as chief  from 2006 until early 2014.

He retired when his health began to decline.

Although he is gone, the people of Lake City said Brown's legacy will live on.

“The knack that he had was that he didn’t have to chase people he would call them by name and they would say I’m going to talk to the chief,”Lovith Anderson, Mayor of Lake City said.

“In his years of experience he gained an intimate knowledge with our citizens and was able to better correlate back with them and help to better build a better police department presence,”Jason Springs, Florence County Councilman said.

“Chief Brown had a love for all of us here in Lake City and he had a passion for his job and absolutely did an amazing job for this city and he is dearly missed,” Moore said.
