DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - Cain Elementary School in Darlington was on lockdown Monday afternoon, according to the Darlington County School District Facebook page.

A car that was reported stolen was stopped near South Main Street, according to a Facebook page from the Darlington Police Department. The driver got out and ran from the vehicle. The post said Darlington Police were in pursuit of the unarmed person near the school, and the decision to lockdown Cain Elem. was made in an abundance of caution.

Staff and students were just fine and continuing class, and everyone was safe, the post said. At about 1:30 p.m., Darlington Police posted that the lockdown was lifted, and officers were continuing to heavily patrol the area. They were also in the process of identifying the suspect.
