MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Waccamaw Library will present a documentary and lecture by historian Kevin Duffus Friday, November 13. The documentary, "WWII Off the Carolina Coast," is the story of the time the enemy entered America’s front door unhindered, when the U.S. suffered but overcame the German U-boat menace, inflicting one of the nation’s worst defeats of the World War II.

Duffus presents a panorama of the betrayal of merchant sailors, of young Coast Guard recruits watching helplessly as sailors plunged into pools of burning oil, and of the baby born in a lifeboat called the Son of Neptune.

The free event will take place in the library’s DeBordieu Auditorium from 6:30 - 8 p.m.

Registration is not required, but you are encouraged to email to help measure attendance: sbremner@gtcounty.org.
