HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Data was released on Friday for two standardized tests, ACT Aspire and ACT administered for the first time in South Carolina.

ACT Aspire replaces the previously used South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards for students in 3rd through 8th grades.

"We are raising our standards to ensure our students are college and career ready," State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman said.

Horry County Schools said its students scored higher than the state average among students whose tests results placed them in the "Ready" or "Exceeding" categories.

However, the district's 4th graders tested 1.2 percent lower that the state average in writing.
