GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Various beach accesses maintained by Georgetown County will remain closed until further notice while county staff works to repair damages caused by the recent rain and flooding.

Listed below are the beach access points affected, according to Georgetown County’s news release.

  • Garden City Beach Access No. 44
  • Litchfield Beach Access Nos. 61 – 66

Support points on the access structures are no longer touching the ground at the beach access points listed above due to severe beach erosion. Repairs are in progress and accesses will reopen on an individual basis as repairs are completed.

Although the impacted accesses are marked as closed, the public continues to disregard notices and try to use structures in need of repairs. Users may not notice the structural damage because most of the damage is located on the dune side of the accesses. The news release advises the public to not attempt to use closed access points until they have been repaired and reopened.
