HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A bargain hunter's favorite spot just expanded to a new location, catering to shoppers in the South Strand. Stein Mart opened a brand new store off Highway 544 next to PetSmart.
"It's absolutely perfect," raved Debra Ritenour, shopping at the new Stein Mart for the first time. "We were here a couple days ago and everything is right in one area. You can just shop and walk and it's a nice location for it."
The store opened Thursday, October 16. The South Strand area is seeing more new stores set up shop along 544 between 17 Bypass and Highway 501. Most recently, Ulta and Rack Room Shoes opened up in the Sayebrook Shopping Center. And shoppers are pleased with the convenience.
"Well, I think the Stein Mart location is much better than where it used to be," agreed Margie Lee, another local shopper. "This is a big growth area, there's everything here that you'd want. Grocery stores, there's other shops, there's hardware stores, lots of restaurants, fast food places. It's really a great location to come and shop because you can get everything done at one area."
Anyone driving through the area knows it's stop-and-go during busy times of the day.
"It's picked up," Shana Mcquade said. "It's changed in the ten years that we've been down in Surfside Beach. It's definitely more congested but you can still get around okay."
All that extra traffic is not deterring some shoppers.
"I didn't notice that much congestion," Lee said. "We came here after having breakfast and we just zipped in and we'll just zip right out. It's a good location, it really is."
There is already a Stein Mart in the shopping complex at 76th Avenue North and North Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach. The Stein Mart location in the Inlet Square Mall recently closed.
