Two Georgetown men arrested following crack cocaine investigation

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Two Georgetown men were arrested Thursday evening after agents of the 15th Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit assisted by the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgetown Police Department finished an investigation into sales of crack cocaine in the City and County of Georgetown, according to a news release from the GCSO.

Daniea Kelly, age 32, is charged with one count of felon in possession of a firearm, one count of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine (cocaine base), one count of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine (powder), two counts of distribution of crack second offense and two counts of distribution of crack within half a mile of a school.

Brent Ladain Shannon, age 35, is charged with one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of felon in possession of a firearm and one count bringing contraband into jail.

Agents attained four arrest warrants for Daniea Kelly for drug distribution, the release states. They found him in the City of Georgetown on Highmarket Street with Brent Ladain Shannon.

Kelly is a convicted felon on federal probation for drugs and weapons charges and Shannon is also a convicted felon.

Agents found a loaded 9 mm handgun, a quantity of crack cocaine packaged for sale and additional powder cocaine in Kelly’s possession; a concealed .22 caliber pistol was found on Shannon.

A grant from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety funds the 15th Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit (Georgetown Office).

The DEU is made up of many agencies with the 15th Judicial Circuit. The contributing agencies include the following:

  • 15th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office
  • Aynor Police Department

    A new court filing from defendants in a case involving the late former Horry County Police detective Allen Large and a defendant identified as “Jane Doe 3” asks the judge for a summary judgement. Those defendants, including former Horry County Police Chief Saundra Rhodes and the supervisors up the chain of command from Large, believe the case shouldn't go before a jury because Jane Doe Three has no case against them.

    Two adults were taken to a hospital with minor injuries after a house fire on Main Street in Conway Tuesday. According to tweet from the Horry County Fire Department, firefighters from their department and the City of Conway Fire Department responded to the fire and brought it under control.
