CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A Conway convenience store is offering a $500 reward in response to a burglary over the weekend.
Now, business is back to normal at the Sunhouse convenience store off Highway 905.
Just a few days ago, workers found what was left after a man decided to browse after hours.
"He busted the back door, came in and took almost 20 cartons of cigarettes, and that was it," described cashier Scott Youngman.
The cashier says the stolen cigarettes alone will cost the store nearly $1,000.
"That'll hurt any kind of business," he said.
Youngman says that's only part of their loss though.
"You've got to replace the window that was broken, replace the cigarettes that were stolen and then you're just real uneasy until you know who broke in and did that kind of stuff," Youngman said.
He says now, he'll be a little more cautious while behind the counter, watching who is coming in and coming out.
He says the store prides itself in helping the community and can't believe someone would pay them back in this way.
"We're a little more hesitant to want to help people," he said. "When your business gets broken into twice within the last six months, it makes it real tough on us."
The suspect is described as a six-foot tall white male, weighing around 200 pounds. He was wearing a blue striped shirt and jeans at the time of the alleged burglary.
