HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Myrtle Beach woman was arrested on Wednesday for child abuse after a newborn child tested positive for THC at Conway Medical Center earlier this month, according to a police report from the Horry County Police Department.

Ashley Frances Hawes-Riker, age 30, is charged with unlawful neglect of child or helpless person by legal custodian, according to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center website.

The police report states a drug test revealed THC in Hawes-Riker’s system also.

THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the primary ingredient in marijuana.

Hawes-Riker was released from the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Thursday afternoon.
