Georgia man arrested for trafficking meth after leading police on pursuit on I-20, I-95

DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Bond was denied Thursday afternoon to a man from Riverdale, Georgia who was arrested after fleeing a traffic stop on Interstate 20 in Darlington County, according to a news release from the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.

Jonathan Israel Lopez is charged with trafficking methamphetamine, failure to stop for a blue light, simple possession of marijuana and not having a South Carolina driver’s license.

Lopez was stopped by deputies with the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) for a minor traffic violation. When deputies approached Lopez’s vehicle, he sped away.

He led deputies on a pursuit from near mile marker 137 on Interstate 20 to mile marker 170 on Interstate 95 in Florence County, the release states.

During the chase, Lopez threw a package from his vehicle; the package was recovered and contained a large amount of methamphetamine.
